Diane Borchardt was a teaching assistant former study hall monitor at Jefferson High School in Wisconsin. She was convicted of hiring three of her students to murder her ex-husband, Ruben Borchardt, Easter morning in 1994 [1].
The Borchardts married in October 1979. Ruben had just lost his first wife (the mother of his two children) in a car accident earlier this year. For the next 14 years, both Ruben and his children lived with Diane. He did not hit or abuse Diane.
In late 1993, Reuben in love with a woman who had hired him to make a cabinet for her work and decided she wanted to divorce Diane. During the divorce proceedings, Ruben won the title at home, which meant Diane had to leave home.
Diane then began soliciting some of her students for the job of killing Ruben, offering cars and 20. $ 000 for insurance policy life of Reuben. One of them finally agreed to do it and recruited a couple of friends to help. On the eve of the murder, Diane deliberately took a fight with Ruben and told police he left the house, giving herself an alibi.
The next morning, about 3:30 am, as Ruben and his son, ready to go to the Sunrise Easter service at his church, Diane students broke into the house and Ruben was shot twice with a shotgun, just as he was climbing the stairs to get her son out of bed. Ruben was taken to a hospital where he died several hours later.
Diane came to the crime for nearly six months – until one of the gunmen told “the wrong person ‘about his involvement in the crime and implicated Diane as the organizer of the plot.
In his view, Diane Borchardt was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide. She was sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of parole until she had served 45 years of his sentence.
In 1996 the TV movie Seduced by Madness: The story of Diane Borchardt, Ann-Margret starred as Diane.
