A tiny underwater earthquake has struck off Santa Monica and was extensively sensed in the West Los Angeles area.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the 3.6-magnitude temblor hit at 2:17 a.m. PDT Monday and was centered about 4 miles west of Redondo Beach at a profundity of 8 miles.
The U.S. Geological Survey website noted hundreds of hits from respondents speaking they felt the earthquake. Mostly populace in oceanfront areas but some from middle Los Angeles about 20 miles east.
A Santa Monica law enforcement orator says he felt a “very succinct and mild jolt,” but had not received any calls from the community.
Christopher Knight, a Scottsdale, Ariz., occupant visiting in Marina Del Ray, speaks the jolt lasted about a second. “It was extremely short shift from left to right.”
Scientists say quakes of this magnitude, while frequently felt, are usually not burly enough to cause wound or harm.
