Matt Damon, actor and philanthropist, was found dead in the of the mountains of California on Wednesday. He was 38.
According to website TMZ, Damon, who was officially reported missing Friday, was on a camping trip. His body was found by Deputy Sheriff of Imperial County on Wednesday.
The cause of death is unknown.
According to TMZ.com on Wednesday, police went to the desert near San Diego on Tuesday That day, TMZ.com reported, “Damon sent a text message to a friend who was out of the water and needed help. There was a massive search that ended abruptly.”
In his personal blog, Damon wrote last month that he would go to the desert because of his friends talking about “treasure hunting and lost gold, and my insatiable appetite for adventure and exploration … I plan to go as deep into the desert that any failure of my equipment could cost me my life. ”
Later, however, downplayed such fears, writing, “It seems that some websites have reported on the history, the post which could die in the desert, or it could be my greatest opponent yet, etc. Come on guys. It is very common in southern California to go to off-road recreation areas in the desert about an hour away from Los Angeles and San Diego. So my plan is to go to the desert, do some camping, ride the bike and shoot some guns. sounds like a lot of fun for me. Many people do. This is not a version of Into the Wild. I’m not going to the desert with a pair of shorts and a knife to try to live off the land. I totally geared up and I plan to have some fun. ”
Damon won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for his screenplay in Good Will Hunting and was nominated for his lead performance in the same film. Steady growth in the popularity of the 1997 film, was from matched with a list of actors in films of the era, and today ranks among the best actors in Hollywood.
Damons agent, John Hayner, said his client lived a simple life and always had an appreciation for nature.
